At Concord Eyecare in North Strathfield, Sydney, we check accurately, by measuring eye growth directly — and show you the answer on a simple chart. We call this the SightTrack™ assessment: a growth chart for your child's eyes.
How is this different from a normal eye test?
A prescription shows how your child sees today. Eye length shows how their eyes are growing.
A normal eye test checks how well your child sees. It finds the right prescription. That is complete care. But it leaves out one number most routine tests don't include: how fast your child's eyes are growing. That number decides what happens next. We measure it.

Cycloplegic examination
Cycloplegic drops relax the focusing muscles completely, so we measure the true prescription. Children's eyes focus hard all day — without the cycloplegic drops, the result can look stronger than it really is. This is the honest baseline every future visit is compared against.

“Axial length” means how long the eye has grown. Myopia happens when the eye grows too long, so this is the direct measure of eye growth. A beam of light does it in seconds — nothing touches the eye. How the measurement works →
Binocular vision screening
How the two eyes focus and work together as a team. Problems here can affect reading, comfort, and which treatment suits your child best.
Corneal topography, as required
A detailed map of the front surface of the eye — thousands of measurement points in one scan. It also tells us whether ortho-K lenses would fit your child's eyes.

Children's eyes focus hard all day, and that effort can make a result look stronger than it really is. The cycloplegic examination removes the guesswork — the honest starting point every future visit is compared against.
The cycloplegic drops go in early in the visit and work while you are with us. The 45 minutes allows for it — no separate visit.
For a few hours afterwards, your child's near vision will be blurry. Their eyes will be more sensitive to light. Reading and homework can wait until the evening.

What is a myopia assessment?
A myopia assessment is a full work-up of a child's short-sightedness (myopia) — not just today's prescription. At Concord Eyecare it includes a cycloplegic examination, axial length measurement, binocular vision screening, corneal topography as required, a risk assessment, treatment suitability, and your child's printed SightTrack growth chart with a written plan. It takes 45 minutes.
What's the difference between an eye test and a myopia assessment?
A routine eye test checks how well your child sees and finds the right prescription. That remains complete care. A myopia assessment adds the measurements that show how the myopia is changing — most importantly axial length, how long the eye has grown — plotted on a growth chart. That tells you how quickly the myopia is moving, and helps you decide what to do.
What is axial length and why measure it?
Axial length simply means how long the eye has grown, front to back. Myopia happens when the eye grows too long. So measuring eye length tracks the problem at its source — more directly than the prescription alone. We measure it with a beam of light on the Zeiss IOLMaster 500. It takes seconds. Nothing touches the eye. The result goes onto your child's SightTrack chart — their eye-growth chart.
What is SightTrack?
SightTrack is our name for how we look after children's myopia: measure how the eyes are growing, plot it on a growth chart, match the right treatment, and adjust the plan as your child grows. The printed chart you take home is your child's SightTrack chart — a growth chart for their eyes.
Does my child need a referral?
No. You can book directly — no letter from a GP or another optometrist is needed. Just bring your child's current glasses, and any old reports or prescriptions you have. Every past measurement helps us build a clearer picture of how your child's eyes are changing.
What are the cycloplegic drops for?
Cycloplegic drops relax your child's focusing muscles completely, so we can measure their true prescription. Without them, a child's strong focusing can make the result look worse than it really is. This cycloplegic examination sets the accurate baseline. Near vision stays blurry for a few hours afterwards, and sunlight will feel brighter than usual — bring sunglasses. The cycloplegic drops are included in the fee.
What happens after the assessment?
You take home the printed growth chart and a written plan. If your child's eye growth is normal for their age, the plan may simply be a check every six months. If it is faster than expected, we talk you through the options we fit here — including ortho-K overnight lenses, MiyoSmart myopia-control glasses and MiSight daily contact lenses — and how they compare side by side. Then we re-measure every six months, against your child's own chart.
