What is MiyoSmart iQ?

The next step for HOYA's myopia lens

MiyoSmart iQ is the newest version of HOYA's MiyoSmart spectacle lens for slowing myopia (short-sightedness) in children. It builds on the same proven D.I.M.S. technology as the standard MiyoSmart lens, with a refined design HOYA calls "Triple Enhanced Design." It launches in Australia in August 2026.

Like the original, MiyoSmart iQ looks like an ordinary single-vision lens — your child sees clearly through the centre while tiny treatment zones across the lens send a gentle "slow down" signal to the growing eye. The iQ refines where and how strongly that signal is delivered.

It's the newest lens in the MiyoSmart range and sits alongside the standard lens rather than replacing it — for many children, the standard MiyoSmart lens is still an excellent choice.

How is iQ different from standard MiyoSmart?

Three small changes to where the signal lands

MiyoSmart iQ keeps the core D.I.M.S. design but makes three changes: a smaller clear central zone, treatment segments moved closer to the centre to target a more responsive part of the retina, and a slightly stronger, wider treatment area. The goal is a more precisely placed myopic-defocus signal.

Why does a precise fit matter more?

A smaller clear zone leaves less room for error

With any myopia-control lens, the treatment zones only work as designed when they sit correctly in front of your child's eyes. Because MiyoSmart iQ uses a smaller central clear zone, getting the measurements and centring right matters even more — which is exactly the kind of detail an experienced fitter pays close attention to.

The treatment zones need to sit within about a millimetre of where they're designed to. Beyond that margin, the lens can't do its job properly — so accurate measurement and centring matter.

When the lens is centred accurately to each eye, your child looks through the clear zone for everyday distance vision and the treatment signal lands where it's meant to. Getting it right means careful measurement, the right frame choice, and proper alignment — then checking it again at follow-up.

What the research actually shows

There are two layers to the evidence. The original MiyoSmart lens has years of peer-reviewed proof. The new iQ design has very promising early trial results from HOYA — but they're interim and not yet peer-reviewed, so we read them carefully and we'll give you a straight take in person.

Over 12 months, children in the iQ group averaged almost no change in prescription (+0.05D), versus about half a dioptre of worsening (−0.53D) in ordinary lenses. HOYA reports 9 in 10 children had no clinically relevant progression* in year one.

MiyoSmart iQ suits short-sighted children whose prescription is still changing, who can wear glasses consistently, and whose families want the newest option. Like all MiyoSmart lenses, it needs to be worn most of the day — around 12 hours or more — to work. We'll confirm suitability at a full myopia assessment.

What's the difference between MiyoSmart and MiyoSmart iQ?

Both use HOYA's D.I.M.S. technology to slow myopia. The iQ is the newer version, with a refined design that places the treatment signal more precisely. The standard lens is still an excellent, well-proven option for many children.

When can my child get MiyoSmart iQ?

It launches in Australia in August 2026. Concord Eyecare is a selected early-access provider, so we can fit it ahead of general release. Book a myopia consultation and we'll tell you the earliest we can fit your child.

Is MiyoSmart iQ proven to work?

The MiyoSmart design has strong peer-reviewed evidence — the original lens slowed myopia progression by about 59% over two years. HOYA's early iQ trial data is very promising but still interim and not yet peer-reviewed, so we read it carefully and explain it in person.

How long does my child need to wear them?

Like all MiyoSmart lenses, iQ works best worn most of the day — around 12 hours or more. Consistent wear matters more than anything for getting the benefit.
